I am a biologist fascinated with biomedical sciences, especially basic and translational cancer research, and I have >14 years of full-time experience in research.

I received my Master´s in biology from Jagiellonian University in PoIand and my PhD in biomedical sciences from Technical University of Munich in Germany. During my PhD project I studied the stromal-epithelial cross-talk in the gut. In the project I addressed the question: What are the mechanisms regulating proliferation and differentiation in the intestinal stem cell niche? In parallel, I was working on a translational project aimed at the establishment of human-derived organoids from Barrett´s Esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma biopsies.

After research experience in Germany, I joined Michael Shen Lab at Columbia University, NYC, USA, where I was working as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist. In Michael Shen Lab my research was focused on stromal-epithelial cross-talk in prostate development and cancer, and I generated there a unique collection of stromal cell lines derived from human prostatectomy samples, and identified novel markers for prostatic stromal cells.

After a postdoctoral training at Umeå University in Sweden, where I was working on establishment of a research project on the tumor microenvironment and plasma membrane dynamics, I focused on grant applications. I am now a junior group leader at the University of Agriculture in Cracow, Poland. My long-term goal is to identify novel targets of the tissue microenvironment for chronic diseases e.g. cancer and celiac disease.
